High School For Girls

Believe, Achieve, Thrive

Student Support

In the High School Sixth Form, we are very proud of the support and sense of community we offer our students, and we believe it is this which sets us apart from other providers.

The Sixth Form team of tutors and support staff provide outstanding pastoral care and relationships between staff and students are excellent.  Our teaching staff are extremely dedicated and set high standards and expectations for students.

Mentoring

Every student within our Sixth Form has their own mentor in the role of their Form Tutor. Students meet their mentor formally during the year as well as informally daily, with a view to supporting them to reach their full academic potential.

Students and parents receive updates on how they are performing in their individual subjects every term as well as a Full Report during the course of the year.  Information from teachers is constantly collected over the year so as a Sixth Form we are able to track students’ progress and action intervention where and when it is required.

Attendance

We believe excellent attendance in the Sixth Form is vital, as it prepares students for the future, as well as ensuring that they are given the best possible chance to achieve highly or their potential. Statistics show that for every percentage a young person’s attendance drops, the lower the chance of them achieving their target grades. As such, attendance is a key focus of the Sixth Form team.

Opportunities Post 18

The High School Sixth Form has a superb track record in providing progression to employment, training and Higher Education with students being well advised and fully supported throughout this process.

Any student wishing to apply for university needs to apply through UCAS. Introduction to UCAS begins in the Spring Term of Year 12, with drop in sessions, university visits, Higher Education evening, and support with completion of the application form until the UCAS deadline in Year 13.

Please take a look at 'mystudentevents' website.

All students who join our Sixth Form are informed about our 16-19 Bursary Scheme.  More information with regards to this can be found by clicking here

Expert Staff

We have an experienced Student Support Officer who works with students and liaises with outside agencies on a range of issues.  We also have a dedicated independent Careers Advisor who is there to support students with work experience as well as careers advice.  In both cases students can email them directly for an appointment or can be referred by a member of staff.
