The Food Technology Department is situated in a newly-refurbished, specialist teaching room.
In modern day life, it is all too easy to forget how important it is to eat healthily and to become reliant on convenient foods. Understanding what we put into our body and acquiring the skills to be able to create balanced, different and appetising meals is so very important, and your journey starts here at HSFG.
A structured KS3 course ensures all students are exposed to a broad range of practical skills, techniques, equipment and recipes. They are encouraged to develop, plan and cook meal components involving single or multiple products.
Initially, the emphasis focuses on the safe and hygienic making of food products and making of food products followed by the study of healthy eating models which relate to a balanced diet. In Year 9, students increasingly understand how the characteristics of ingredients help achieve a varied diet suited to the needs of different groups in society. Students in all key stages are taught to understand the relationship between food, good health, growth and energy balance throughout life.
