High School For Girls

Believe, Achieve, Thrive

House System

Since September 2016, staff has been working hard to develop the current House System in order to ensure that the five houses are an integral part of school life at the High School for Girls.  In September 2017, for the first time, five tutor groups were created so that each tutor group is a House. Therefore, 7BA, 7BE, 7H, 7K and 7M form a House and each House has a House Captain and Deputy House Captain.  A House Captain also has been appointed for each year group.

Every three weeks, every House joins together for a House assembly, led by House officials which has both an individual theme and also an opportunity to organise House competitions. It has been a successful way of bringing the House members together and it has ensured that House officials have developed their leadership, communication and organisational skills.

Furthermore, there has been an increase the number of House competitions so that a greater number of students want to get involved in representing their house. Also, a greater variety of House competitions have been introduced so that all of the interests of our students are covered.  Examples of events, include House Chess, House Biology, House Benchball and a House Quiz.

More recently, the school is pleased that five businesses have offered to support the Houses through sponsorship. They are:

Barwell - Quickmach
Bearland – Glacier Point ‚Äč
Hartland – One Grove
Kyneburga – Safran

Mynd – Hatherley Dental Surgery

Finally, the last major focus of the academic year, is to develop the current Merit system ready for implementation in September 2017.
