The PE Department runs a comprehensive programme of fixtures for all year groups against local schools across the county and beyond. Students take great pride in representing the school at fixtures and competitions. There is a very competitive spirit in all our fixtures.
In Terms 1 to 4, netball and hockey are the major games with a number of fixtures in badminton alongside cross-country competitions. Terms 5 and 6 have a very traditional focus with matches in rounders, tennis and athletics. Fixtures occur after school with some competitions being held on Saturdays.
The school regularly enters national competitions in netball, hockey, badminton, cross-country, tennis and athletics. In recent years the department have expanded the number of competitive sports played to coincide with the Sainsbury’s School Games. The school has been very successful in this competition.
In the last couple of years, the PE Department have also been successful in establishing a Sixth Form boys’ rugby team who play matches against other local schools on a Wednesday afternoon. The boys also play the occasional football match.
We also hold an Annual Sports’ Presentation Evening to celebrate the success of different teams and also to award our Junior and Senior Sports’ Personality of the Year and Team of the Year. This is a fantastic evening where we celebrate the achievements of our very talented students.
Sports Day and House Competitions
Sports Day is one of the most exciting dates in the school year. Every student is encouraged to get involved and represent their House. A comprehensive programme of competition is offered with field events in the morning and track events during the afternoon. At lunch time, the school enjoys its annual picnic on the school field and students take great pride in planning their picnics. During the picnic, we also enjoy groups of senior musicians singing and playing their instruments. The atmosphere on Sports Day is always terrific with students arriving with their faces painted in house colours. The noise is also considerable as the students in each house cheer on their participants.
An extensive Inter-House competition is also in place across a variety of sports and activities including dance and swimming as well as games activities.
